WHO in Copenhagen

For my go abroad experience, I went to Copenhagen, Denmark, to work at the World Health Organization. I had a role of an intern at the Child and Adolescent Health Department (CAH). This is a WHO regional office for Europe, which works with many European states to ensure the health of children and adolescents is a global priority.

As an intern, I participated in a variety of interesting projects at the CAH. They included helping with the organization of a conference for pediatric experts to create a book for general practitioners in the management of childhood conditions. In addition, I have been writing several chapters for this book and have collaborated with specialists, teachers, psychologists, doctors and other professionals in the process. The other part of my internship involved participating in international missions to assess the state of maternal and child health in several  European countries. I worked with my colleagues in creating background preparation for the missions, helped in the organizational process of it, and contributed to a mission occurring in Moldova.

My experience in the WHO gave me a great introduction into the workings of this fascinating international organization. Working here has ignited my passion for health of children and adolescents worldwide, and inspired me to dedicate my future work into ensuring good quality,  universal health care is accessible to all people. Having been exposed to the frequent WHO events, highlighting various important topics such as physical activity, nutrition, antimicrobial resistance, prevention of maltreatment in youth, has given me a wide overview into the important work WHO performs globally and regionally.

I had a fantastic experience in Copenhagen overall. Being a part of this beautiful and active city has inspired me to rediscover my love for cycling and the outdoors. I have enjoyed some great pastries, one of a kind bread,  and met some wonderful people during the internship I now call friends. Thank you University of Edinburgh for giving me the opportunity to go abroad and represent you!
